Lauren shuddered as she came back to reality. "He raped me," she whispered. Her eyes cast down to the ground. She was afraid to see Colin's reaction to her retelling of the events from that night. "He pleaded guilty to the charges, and he was sentenced to two years in jail." Tears streamed down her cheeks as she choked on her words and said, "And now he's out. He's free, and I am still stuck in this prison that he has built for me."

Colin gently put a finger under her chin and brought her gaze to meet his. "Lauren, I'm so sorry that you had to go through that. And I'm sorry I made you talk about something you didn't want to talk about. If I had known ---."

"You couldn't have known," she said, interrupting him. "You are the only person I have told besides my parents and the police." She sighed with relief. "It actually feels good to be able to tell someone." She timidly put her arms around him and hugged him. The gesture was surprising to her. She hadn't willingly touched anyone in a while. "Thank you for listening, Colin."

He slowly and tenderly placed his arms around her. "Is this okay?" he asked.

"Yes," she whispered. It was more than okay. "I've needed someone to hold me for such a long time."

He squeezed her a little bit tighter and held her as she cried.
